Enhancing the Quality of Child Care for Children with Disabilities

Easter Seals North Texas partners with Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas to help Dallas child care providers better meet the needs of children who have disabilities.

Recently, Easter Seals North Texas (ESNT) was awarded a one-year contract with Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas to offer a training and support program designed to help child care providers in Dallas County increase their capacity to better meet the child care needs of families who have children with disabilities.

“This is a tremendous need in our community,” says Kathy Dyer, project director. “Families who have children with disabilities often have very few options for quality, affordable child care.” 

ESNT expects to have 50 child care providers participate in the Inclusion Enhancement and Support Project (IESP), all of whom will be working to create a nurturing, stimulating and appropriate child care environment for children with disabilities.  The IESP staff will work closely with each participating child care provider to assess opportunities for improvement, create a step-by-step plan for inclusion enhancement, provide individualized training for child care staff and offer support throughout the process in meeting identified goals.
